and Biodegradation Symposium

September 3-5, 2014

Symposium

The Symposium will be held in Lodz, Poland.

Arriving in Lodz by airplane

Lodz Airport offers some connections. The new business connection (Lufthansa codeshare) to Munich (MUC) hub was recently opened and there are also couple of low-cost Ryanair flights.

The Lodz Airport is located just 6 km from the city centre which you can reach quickly by city bus (lines 55 and 65) or by taxi. All necessary details can be found on the airport's website http://airport.lodz.pl/en.

If you fly to Warsaw, it is best to travel to Łódź by train. The journey will take approximately 2.5 hours. To take a train, you will need to transfer from Warsaw Chopin Airport (http://www.lotnisko-chopina.pl/en/passenger) to Warszawa Centralna station (approx. 30 minutes). From the airport you need to get to the Railway Station either by local train, public bus (line 175) or by taxi. The bus - No 175 takes you directly to Warszawa Centralna railway station. You will need a bus ticket which you can buy in a kiosk in the arrival hall, the price is 4,40 PLN.

Travelling by rail

Trains from Warsaw to Łódź are operated by Polish National Railways (PKP). For the current timetables, please go to http://rozklad-pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/en? . As there are two companies which service this route, it is best to buy your ticket on arrival, when you know which train you will take. From Warszawa Centralna railway station trains to Łódź depart approximately every hour. Please ask for ticket to Łódź Widzew or Łódź Kaliska.

Public transport in Łódź

To check how to reach a given place in Łódź by public transport, it is best to use http://lodz.jakdojade.pl/?locale=en - a website which provides the bus and tram schedules and shows the route to your destination. In order to travel by public transport, you need to obtain a ticket. There are two basic kinds of tickets in Łódź – nominally 20-minute and 40-minute ones (2,60 PLN and 3,40 PLN, respectively). Recently the tickets' times have been extended: from 20 min to 40 min and from 40 min to 60 min so you basically would need the cheaper ones on all the trips around Lodz's centre. The tickets for the buses and trams are the same.
